Brief History

The Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.N. Sc) degree programme of Evangel University, Akaeze is a generic nursing programme designed to provide sound educational and nursing knowledge essential to the preparation of nurses who will function independently and as members of the interdisciplinary health team. The Department was established in 2018 based on the vision and mission of the university which is to give total education to the total man in order to produce graduates with enhanced nursing status, equipped and motivated to become nurse leaders and role models with competitive edge in Nigeria’s public and private sectors in line with global trends.

The philosophy of the nursing degree programme is hinged on the belief that human beings are bio-psycho social beings whose needs are the focus of all nursing activities directed at achieving high level wellness. The Bachelor of Nursing Science degree programme is specifically designed among others  to prepare the graduate nurse to think effectively, communicate thought and to discriminate among values ;  produce  Polyvalent nurses capable of delivering care in a variety of settings; assist individuals, families and communities with diverse background and health problems and to produce graduates who are capable of relating their roles  of health care services to the broader social system and who will be engaged in life-long and self-directed learning.
Graduates of the B.N.Sc programme are trained in diverse areas of nursing science and possess the 21st century digital innovations in health care and education in nursing entrepreneurship. They can focus their practice in any clinical area of practice such as medical surgical, maternal, child health and midwifery, community/public health, mental health nursing and the choices help in shaping their careers. They can choose to work in the clinical area, academic, schools or with developmental or donor agencies in the private or public sector. Specific skills that enhance employability of the graduates include communication, relationship and interprofessional, leadership and management, research, creative thinking and problem solving skills. The duration of the B.N.Sc. Degree programme is 5 years for Joint Matriculation Examination Entry candidates (UTME) and 4 years for Direct Entry Candidates. This Department has distinguished lecturers, the best anywhere and is led by Prof Mrs Pat Okpala.
